Valentine's day, a romantic holiday with roots reaching back into roman legends, has been celebrated for over 1,500 years. Modern day Valentine's day traditions include giving cards, as well as small gifts to friends and sweethearts. More than any other holiday, homemade gifts from the heart are popular on Valentine's day, and luckily there are several fun crafts you can do to create a themed Valentine's day present for everyone on your list.

    Picture Frame

    • Coat both sides of several chalk heart candies and set on their side to let dry for at least half an hour. Once dry coat the exposed sides and lay flat to dry for an additional half hour. Use a hot glue gun to affix these candies to a wooden picture frame, available at your local craft store. Let dry for at least an hour to ensure the candies are firmly attached. Fill your frame with a romantic or sentimental picture before gifting.

    Candy Jewelry

    • Cover several candy hearts in sealant as mentioned in the above step. When the sealant is half dry use the sharp end of a safety pin to poke a small hole through the candy near the top center of the heart. Let dry completely. These candies can be used to make valentine's candy necklaces, anklets, bracelets and even earrings using a few simple jewelry components. Used in combination with seed beads, you can create a piece of jewelry that can be worn year round.

    Scented Satchels

    • Buy or sew several small satin bags in varying shades of red, pink and white. Fill your satchels with a combination of potpourri, dried flowers, rose petals and pieces of dried cinnamon bark. For a stronger scent, add a few drops off scented oil before tying shut. Recipients can keep these satchels in dresser drawers, linen shelves or hang them in closets to give their clothing, bedding and towels a fresh scent.

    Valentine's Day Chest

    • Purchase a small chest or tin in the shape of a heart from your local craft or candy store. Paint a solid color, preferably red, white or pink, and let dry fully. Use scissors to cut several small hearts out of various materials such as tin foil, construction paper, fabric and scraps of wrapping paper. Glue these hearts on your box or tin and accent with beads, glitter and other craft accessories. Consider filling your Valentine's day chest with candy or small presents before gifting.
