Vitamins for Dopamine

  • Amino Acids

    • Amino acids are present in a lot of foods that contain protein. Foods with protein and amino acids boost dopamine levels and combat depression. Foods to eat include chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, cheese, yogurt and nuts.

    Antioxidants

    • Antioxidants sometimes contain chemicals that can be converted directly into dopamine. Foods that contain a lot of antioxidants protect neurons that use dopamine from damage from free radicals. Three important antioxidant vitamins are vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene. Foods with antioxidants to eat are bananas, avocados, apples, beets, almonds, lima beans, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and dairy products. Watermelon is also great because it contains vitamin B6. Also look for any fruit or vegetable that has a yellow, orange, red, purple or blue hues.

    Fatty Acids

    • Fatty acids increase receptors for dopamine. Many fish are rich in fatty acids, such as tuna, salmon, mackerel, sardines, halibut and striped bass. Foods containing protein, such as red meats and poultry, also increase dopamine receptors in the brain.
