What Are the Better Seats in the Upper Level at the HP Pavilion in San Jose?

    • San Jose's HP Pavilion is an entertainment complex in the heart of downtown. This venue is home to the San Jose Sharks (hockey team) and is one venue large musical acts and performances visit. The venue opened in 1993 with a maximum capacity of 20,000. When purchasing tickets, there are a variety of rates and sections. Though the 200 sections are the highest, there are good seats to purchase in these sections.

    Center Stage

    • One way the venue is set up for events is with a center stage. This means that the stage is set in the center of the venue with seats surrounding the stage on every side. A center stage setting is possible for a concert of live performance. When booking tickets for a center stage event, the best upper level seats are in the 202, 201, 228, 221, 222, 223, 207, 208 or 209 sections. These seats are directly in the middle of the sides of the stage. When a performance occurs in a center stage setting, the artists will work the entire stage.

    End Stage

    • For a concert, is it likely the HP Pavilion will be set up with a front-end stage. This means the stage is set on the right side of the venue with seats in front of the stage as well as on the sides. The seats behind the stage are not sold due to viewing obstructions. The best sections for a center view of the stage in this setting are the 207, 208 or 209 sections. On the sides of the stage sections 216 and 228 are best.

    Hockey

    • Hockey games are popular events at the HP Pavilion. During games sometimes the best views are in the upper-level sections because you can see the entire game. When booking tickets for Sharks games the best upper-level seats are any seats in the 200 levels. From the upper sections you can see the entire game from every section and there are no obstructed viewing seats.

    Tips

    • On the HP Pavilion website, you can preview the section and seat by choosing the area on the seating map. The site has a virtual camera that allows you to see what the view is like.
