What Are Birthday Gifts for Elderly Women?

  • Soft Throw Blanket

    • As elderly women get older, many become cold very easily. Therefore, they are often most comfortable when they cover up with a soft blanket while reading, watching television or doing other activities. Choose a soft throw blanket that will feel good to her skin, as older skin can become thin and easily irritated. You could also have the blanket monogrammed with her name or initials on the corner for a personal touch to the gift.

    Scrapbook

    • Create a scrapbook for the elderly woman in your life. This is the perfect gift if you are trying to think of something for your mother or grandmother. Collect photographs of her from throughout her life. Choose photos of her as a young woman, along with pictures of her with her partner, children and grandchildren. Write passages in the scrapbook that detail things she has done in her life or memories you have with her. This is a gift she will be able to look at and reflect on her life.

    Pampering

    • Just because a woman is older does not mean she no longer enjoys being pampered. Give her some items that will make her feel like she has a spa at home. For example, choose a bottle of aromatic bubble bath so that she can relax in the tub and soothe her muscles. Many elderly women have dry skin, so choose some moisturizing cream for her face, hands or body. You could also choose a bottle of perfume.

    Make Life Easier

    • For an elderly woman who has trouble doing certain things, choose a gift that will help make her life easier. For example, maybe she can't see as well as she used to. In that case, choose a phone or a remote control with larger numbers or buttons. A book on tape or a book with large print can also be a good idea. You could also install rails in her shower or a ramp on her front steps. For an elderly woman who lives alone at home and does not get around so well anymore, hire a maid to come by and help clean for a couple of days a week for a period of a few months.
