Ethanol is a renewable, corn-based fuel that is more friendly to the environment than the standard unleaded gasoline. Most of the vehicles in the United States are capable of burning ethanol, at least gasoline with a low percentage of ethanol. Many states have E10 fuel available for purchase, which is gasoline mixed with 10-percent ethanol. Only Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFV) can burn the ethanol mixture called E85, which is gasoline mixed with 85-percent ethanol. These vehicles can also run on unleaded gasoline.
