The Palm TX, manufactured in 2005, is a versatile personal digital assistant, or PDA. There are a variety of functions, including a phone, camera and electronic address book. Furthermore, it also can be used to store music. Also included were expansion slots for memory and the company, which is now part of Hewlett-Packard Corp., offers guidance on what cards are compatible with the Palm TX.

    Standardized SD Cards

    • Hewlett-Packard states that all regular SD cards are compatible. Because these cards are standardized, any card having the "SD" designation will work. A myriad of manufacturers supply these cards, and they are available at any electronics supply retailer in a variety of storage capacities.

    SDIO Cards

    • Besides an SD card, an SDIO card can be used as well. According to Georgetown University, these cards are an upgrade of the SD card, some having Wi-Fi capabilities. Wi-Fi allows you to connect to the Internet over a wireless network. Georgetown University recommends not connecting over a wireless network that does not have a secure connection, since others may intercept the signal. Another card that is compatible is the multimedia card. This is not an SD card, but multimedia cards are standardized in size, and a slot will accept a variety of cards from different manufacturers.

    Non-Compatible Card

    • While most SD and SDIO cards will work, an SDHC card will not. This is due to transfer speed and card density. An SDHC card is designed for very fast data transfer. Because the Palm TX was not designed for the SDHC, it will not communicate with the card. Bear in mind that the Palm TX was manufactured in 2005. In 2010, transfer speed of newer devices will accept the SDHC card. This, however, should not pose a problem. For most applications, the transfer rate of an SD or an SDIO is adequate.
