Where Is the Fuel Filter on a 1991 Chevolet Lumina?

Checking the fuel filter on your 1991 Chevrolet Lumina on a regular basis is an easy way to help extend the life of your car. The fuel filter helps protect the engine by cleaning the fuel of dirt particles before the fuel reaches the fuel injector. Chevrolet recommends that you replace the fuel filter every 25,000 miles or so.
  • Location

    • The fuel filter on a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina is underneath the vehicle. To locate the fuel filter, crawl under the vehicle from the driver's side and look below the driver's seating area. The filter is mounted on the chassis just in front of the fuel tank.

    Function

    • The fuel filter is an integral component of the fueling system, which gets fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. As fuel flows through the fuel line, it passes into the fuel filter. which cleans it of dirt and rust particles and then sends it to the fuel injector, which pumps the fuel into the engine as needed.

    Caution

    • The fuel filter is likely to contain some gas and flammable fumes. For your safety, exhibit extreme caution when working around the fuel filter and other components of the fueling system. Keep open flames and lit tobacco away. Also, due to the location of the fuel filter underneath your vehicle, you may have to raise the front end of the vehicle to reach it. Use jack stands to stabilize your elevated vehicle while you are working on the fuel filter.
