Windows 7 & Winamp Problems

Winamp is possibly the most famous free media player available; around since 1999, Winamp should run on all current versions of Windows. However, there have been minor compatibility issues with Windows 7.

Winamp and Windows 7

• Winamp build 5.26 was not compatible with the Windows 7 beta release, and is still not fully compatible with the commercial release. As of November 2010, Winamp's current release is build 5.58, and should be more compatible with Windows 7.

Clean Install

• Windows forum moderator Dale Qiao recommends doing a clean install of Winamp in Windows compatibility mode. Make sure that you meet the minimum system requirements for your version of Winamp (see Resources). If you're not running the most recent install of Winamp, consider trying it; it may run more smoothly.

Troubleshooting

• Make sure that the crash isn't being caused by corrupt media files or third-party plugins. In some cases removing these extras can fix instability issues with Winamp.
