Winter Activities for Adults

  • Central Park Ice Skating

    • Local residents and vacationers can spend a day ice-skating at Wollman Rink or Lasker Rink in Central Park in New York City. The rinks are open daily from mid-October until the beginning of April each year. Visitors can arrange for a skating lesson, play a game of hockey on the ice or enjoy the surrounding view of the park while skating on the rink. At the end of the skating session, visitors can enjoy a relaxing winter carriage ride through the park or enjoy a casual or upscale meal at the Sheep Meadow Cafe or the Loeb Boathouse.

    Gore Mountain Skiing

    • Gore Mountain in North Creek, New York, offers one- and two-day ski camp programs for individuals at least 18 years of age. Gore Mountain has 88 downhill skiing trails, eight cross-country skiing trails and eight ski lifts. One-day and weekend camps are available for all ski experience levels, and there is a one-day snowboarding program as well. These programs include lift tickets, breakfast and lunch, practice lessons, video analysis and an evening wine and cheese party. A ladies-only, one-day escape is also held on Wednesdays throughout January and February. While at Gore Mountain, guests can enjoy massage services in the lodge and dining at the Tannery Pub & Restaurant, the Base Lodge Food Court and the Topridge Room.

Rock On Ice Company Ice Sculpting

    • For the artistically inclined, ice sculpting classes teach adult students how to create three-dimensional ice figures. The Rock On Ice company in Columbus, Ohio, offers classes that teach students how to design ice sculpture templates, create first dimensional drawings, and sand and detail a sculpture.

    Yosemite Snowshoeing

    • During the wintertime, adults can go snowshoeing at Yosemite National Park in California. Snowshoe rentals are available at the park and visitors can go snowshoeing along the trails on their own or arrange for a guided snowshoe hike with the Yosemite Mountaineering School and Guide Service. Tours travel to the park's Dewey Point, where participants can see Mt. Hoffman, the Half Dome and the Clark Range. Other guided programs include the Full Moon Snowshoe Walk that begins during the evening around the time the moon rises and last for two hours. Throughout the walk, guides offer a dialogue of the plants and animals of the area and lunar folklore.
