The Yamaha YZ 125 is a dirt bike designed for off-road competitive use, primarily in motocross. The bike is engineered for maneuverability by employing a lightweight, compact frame and and light engine. It features a forgiving amount of suspension travel and braking power as well as a six-speed manual transmission. The Yamaha YZ 125 is one of the longest-running Yamaha production dirt bike lines and is also among one of its best-selling motorcycles.

The YZ 125 comes equipped with a 125 cc two-stroke engine with a respective bore and stroke of 54 mm x 54.5 mm. Depending on rotation, it has a compression ratio from 8.6:1 to 10.7:1. Fuel delivery is provided by a Mikuni fuel system that's initiated with capacitor discharge ignition (CDI). The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and chain-based drivetrain.
