2001 BMW M Series Specs

    • The M-series, BMW's high-performance lineup of vehicles, has seen 82 percent of its sales take place in the United States. The first of the series, the M1, made its limited-series debut in 1978. From the Coupe to the Roadster and M3, among others, the M-series strives to combine style and power with comfort.

    M5

    • The 2001 M5 utilized a 4.9-liter V8 engine that generated 394 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 368 foot-pounds of torque at 3,800 rpm. The dual overhead cam engine had four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 11 to one. The bore was 3.70 inches with a 3.50-inch stroke. It had a fuel capacity of 18.5 gallons of gasoline. With the six-speed manual overdrive transmission, it got 13 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway.

    Coupe

    • The M-Series coupe used a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine. It generated 315 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 251 foot-pounds of torque at 4,900 rpm. The dual overhead cam engine had four valves per cylinder along with a compression ratio of 11.5 to one, 3.43 inches of bore and a stroke of 3.58 inches. Equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, the Coupe got 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway. The fuel tank had a capacity for 13.5 gallons of gasoline.

    Roadster

    • The M-series Roadster used a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine. It generated 315 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 251 foot-pounds of torque at 4,900 rpm. The dual overhead cam engine had four valves per cylinder, compression ratio of 11.5 to one, a bore of 3.43 inches and a stroke of 3.58 inches. When equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, it got 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway. The fuel tank on the Roadster had a capacity of 13.5 gallons of fuel.
