How to Replace the Jack on a Toshiba L35

Toshiba Satellite A35 laptops have a tendency to require jack replacement because of a poor connection between the DC power jack pin and the system motherboard. In most instances there is a crack that forms between the jack and the motherboard. You can diagnose a problem with the power jack whenever you experience random shutdowns and if you notice that your battery is not charging even when you plug it into the AC adapter. Before you can access the malfunctioning jack, you need to disassemble your laptop. Disassembly instructions are in the link listed in the "Resources" section.

Follow the instructions provided in the disassembly manual linked in the Resources section. Remove the system motherboard from the laptop and set it aside.

    • 2

Coat the existing solder on the three contacts of the power jack with fresh solder to heat up the old solder.

    • 3

Take the solder off the contacts using the desoldering pump.

    • 4

Remove the power jack from the motherboard by shaking it back and forth until it pulls out. If you are encountering any difficulty in completing this step, try applying more heat to take off any remaining solder that would hold the jack down.

    • 5

Solder the contacts on the replacement DC power jack. Apply a fresh coat on the jack terminals for the motherboard.

    • 6

Insert the replacement DC power jack into the empty space where the old one originally sat. Apply solder to the jack and all of the jack pins to hold everything in place. Secure the system motherboard back into the laptop.

    • 7

Assemble your laptop by reversing the order of the disassembly instructions in the manual from Step 1.
