2005 Chevy Silverado Specifications

    • In 2005, Chevrolet offered three different Silverado pickup trucks: 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD. The smallest truck was the 1500, then the 2500HD. The largest of the group was the 3500HD package. The Silverado name was the replacement for the "C" or "K" series trucks used in the 1980s.

    Engines

    • In the 2005 Silverado 1500, there were five engine selections: 4.3 L, 4.8 L, 5.3 L, 5.4 L and 6.0 L. These engines produced, respectively, 195 horsepower at 4,600 rpm and 260 foot-pounds at 2,800 rpm, 285 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 295 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, 295 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 335 foot-pounds at 4,000 rpm, 295 to 310 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 335 foot-pounds at 4,000 rpm, and 300 horsepower at 4,400 rpm to 345 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 360 to 380 foot-pounds at 4,000 rpm. The 2005 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD had three engine options: 6.0 L, 6.6 L and 8.1 L. These engines produced, respectively, 300 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 360 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm, 300 to 310 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 520 to 605 foot-pounds at 1,600 rpm, and 330 horsepower at 4,200 rpm and 450 foot-pounds at 3,200 rpm.

    Towing

    • The 1500 Silverado has the lowest maximum towing capacity, ranging from 7,400 lbs. to 10,200 lbs. The Silverado 2500HD had a maximum towing range from 14,400 lbs. to 16,200 lbs. The largest truck, the Silverado 3500HD, had a maximum towing capacity from 15,000 lbs. to 16,700 lbs.

    Payload

    • The payload capacity is the amount of total weight that the chassis could bear. The 1500 Silverado had a maximum payload rating of 1,215 lbs. to 3,073 lbs. The 2500HD had a maximum payload rating of 3,151 lbs. to 4,023 lbs. The 3500HD had the highest payload rating, ranging from 3,661 lbs. to 5,497 lbs.

    Fuel

    • The 2005 Silverado 1500 got 14 to 16 mpg in the city and 16 to 22 mpg on the highway, depending on options selected. This truck also had a 26-gallon fuel tank in all short-bed models and all long-bed models had a 34-gallon tank. The Silverado 2500HD was only tested in one trim--two-wheel-drive, 6.0 L V-8. It got 10 mpg in the city and 12 mpg on the highway. It had a 24- or 36-gallon fuel tank, depending on whether it had a short or long bed. The 3500HD was not tested by the EPA for fuel economy.

    Interior

    • The Silverado 1500 had 40.7 to 41 inches of front headroom, 41.3 inches front legroom, 65.2 inches of front shoulder room and 61.4 inches of front hip room. When equipped with extended or crew cab, the 1500 had 38.4 to 40.2 inches of rear headroom, 33.7 to 39.1 inches rear legroom, 65.1 to 66.3 inches of rear shoulder room and 61.4 to 62.9 inches of rear hip room. The 2005 Silverado 2500 had 41 inches of front headroom, 41.3 inches of front legroom, 65.2 inches of front shoulder room and 61.4 inches of front hip room. The extended and crew cab 2500HDs had 38.4 to 39 inches of rear headroom, 33.7 to 39.1 inches of rear legroom, 66.3 to 65.1 inches of rear shoulder room and 61.5 to 62.9 inches of rear hip room. The 3500HD had 41 inches of front headroom, 41.3 inches of front legroom, 65.2 inches of front shoulder room, 61.4 inches of front hip room. When equipped with extended or crew cab, it had 38.4 to 39 inches of rear headroom, 33.7 to 39.1 inches of rear legroom, 65.1 to 66.3 inches of rear shoulder room and 61.5 to 62.9 inches of rear hip room.
