How to Repair a Jalousie Window Pane

As of 2010, a common window for sun porches and other unheated areas is the horizontal louvered window, commonly called a jalousie window. A jalousie window has a single crank-style handle that opens and closes its horizontal glass or plastic panes in unison. Replacement of a broken or cracked jalousie pane is a simple procedure and restores the window unit's proper function and seal.

Rotate the window handle counterclockwise to fully open the panes or to the point where the upper edges of the panes are accessible.

    • 2

Remove any broken glass pieces from the louver channels on both sides. Clear debris from the channels with the tip of a screwdriver.

    • 3

Hold the new pane so the two outside corners of its lower edge are aligned with the channel clips. Push the pane from the top to insert it into the channels on both sides. Slide the pane fully into the channels until the clips lock over the top edge of the pane.

Rotate the handle clockwise to verify proper operation of the window.
