Palm Pilot HotSyncing Problems

  • Outlook 2007 Patch Is Missing

    • Palm has released a patch for its HotSync software, which must be installed if you are synchronizing your Palm Pilot (or other Palm devices) with Outlook 2007. If you are missing the patch, the Palm Pilot will not successfully sync email messages, tasks, or other Outlook data. The patch can be downloaded from the Palm website. (See Resources, below)

Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager Is Outdated

    • Palm routinely releases updates to the Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager. You may experience a problem synchronizing your Palm Pilot because you are running an older version of the software. You can download the newest version of the software at Palm's website. (See Resources, below)

    HotSync Manager Is Not Enabled

    • Sometimes you may not be able to complete the sync process because HotSync Manager is simply not enabled. If the program is not enabled, no sync will occur. Enable HotSync Manager by accessing your computer's list of programs in the Start Menu then clicking on HotSync Manager. Once the application is launched, it will recognize your Palm Pilot. Make sure that your Pilot is powered on and connected with the Universal Serial Bus cable.

    Reset Your Device

    • Performing a soft reset may solve your HotSync problem. A soft reset happens when you power off your device, remove the battery, and wait several seconds for the Palm Pilot to reset. When you reconnect the device, you will have to enter the date and time. No data will be erased in the process.
