The Yamaha YZF R1 is a high-end super-sport motorcycle that was introduced in 1998 and replaced the Yahama YZF 1000R. The 2005 model shares its specifications with all models produced from 2004, which introduced major performance upgrades such as improved weight properties and a new engine.
Dimensions and Exterior

The 2005 Yamaha R1 is 43.5 inches in height, 81.3 inches in length, 28.3 inches in width, 54.9 inches in wheelbase and 5.5 inches in ground clearance. This produces a turning radius of 12.8 feet, a payload capacity of 445 pounds, a dry weight of 379 pounds, which does not include a maximized fuel capacity of 4.9 gallons and a reserve fuel capacity of 0.9 gallons. The exterior is equipped with handlebar locks, front and rear plastic fenders, a handlebar lock, a kick stand and exterior covers and guards.
Engine and Transmission

The 2005 Yamaha R1 has a horizontal in-line, four-stroke, liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine with five valves per cylinder in DOHC configuration. Coupled with a compression ratio of 12.3:1, a 40 mm fuel injector and a bore and stroke of 3.03 and 2.11 respectively, it produces a displacement of 998 cc, a maximum power of 180 horsepower at 12500 rpm and an engine displacement to weight ratio of 2.63 cc. The electrically-started engine is equipped with ram air induction and is controlled by a manual six-speed transmission with a chain primary drive.
Chassis

The chassis has a rake of 24 degrees and a front for diameter of 1.7 inches. The front is fitted with inverted fork suspension with 4.7-inch travel, a dual disc 12.6 inch-brake, four caliper pistons,and a Dunlop 120/70 ZR17 tire. The rear is fitted with twin sided aluminum swing arm suspension with 5.1-inch travel, a 8.7-inch disc brake, a shock absorber, one caliper piston and a Dunlop 190/50 ZR17 tire. Both the front and rear tires produce a trail of 3.8 inches.
