Barack Obama's Environmental Policies

President Obama's environmental policies are aimed at creating clean energy, reducing pollution linked to global warming and protecting the environment. President Obama sees protecting the environment and creating clean energy as a joint effort of both the private and public sector.
  • Energy

    • President Obama supports energy policies that create stronger standards for energy efficient appliances; create more fuel-efficient cars and trucks; invest in clean energy sources; and help homeowners refit their homes so that they use less energy. The White House believes that these policies will end American dependence on foreign oil, improve our economy and protect our environment.

    Climate Change

    • The Obama administration views climate change as a global problem that cannot be ignored by any nation, large or small. Some steps the Obama administration has taken to mitigate climate change include monitoring greenhouse gas emissions; partnering with the international community to create global solutions; educating the public about the issue; and working with the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Force preparing for adapting to the impact of climate change.

    Environment

    • The administration has coordinated interagency responses to a variety of environmental problems, such as restoring ecosystems, protecting the air and conserving the land. Some of President Obama's environmental protection policies include restoring Chesapeake Bay; limiting mercury emissions; strengthening regulation of mountaintop removal coal mining; supporting community level plans to conserve the outdoors; and creating new frameworks for restoring American bodies of water.
