C4 Transmission Specs

  • 1984 Transmission

    • The first transmission that was offered in the C4 Corvette was a 4+3 manual transmission. This transmission offered an overdrive for second, third and fourth gear, and was used in an effort to increase fuel economy. This transmission pushed out 290 foot-pounds of torque to the rear wheels.

    1989 Transmission

    • In 1989, Chevy got rid of the 4+3 transmission and replaced it with a regular four-speed. This transmission was linked to an automatic overdrive for first, second and third gear. It was used from 1989 until 1991. The four-speed manual delivered 335 to 350 foot-pounds of torque, depending on the model year.

    1992 Transmission

    • In 1992, Chevy brought out the big guns and decided to change transmissions in the C4 once again. The new transmission put in the C4 was a six-speed manual. The six-speed transmission delivered 340 to 350 foot-pounds of torque. This transmission paired with the LT-4 engine was known as the Grand Sport Package.
