The Cat 416 Backhoe is a brand of backhoe loaders manufactured by Caterpillar Inc. of Peoria, Illinois. The Caterpillar 416 model loader backhoe originally debuted in 1985. The four-wheel drive machine is equipped with a front loader bucket and rear backhoe boom swing, making it a favorite tool for numerous construction, excavation, demolition, agricultural and other industrial applications.

The Cat 426 series backhoe loader is equipped with an 87 horsepower Cat C4.4 Direct Injection Tubrocharged Aftercooled diesel-powered engine with a 4.13-inch bore. The engine meets all U.S. EPA Tier 3 emissions requirements. The machine's peak torque redlines at approximately 1400 rpms, and the 426 is capable of achieving a speed of 25 miles per hour. The engine's air cleaner and precleaner functions are located in a single unit in the machine's front hood. The engine's air cleaner is integrated with both a dust ejection system and an axial seal system to promote longer service life.

The Cat 416 comes standard with several features designed to promote both vehicle security as well as operator and job site safety. In addition to a secondary parking brake, the machine is also outfitted with an alarm and key-powered start and stop system. Cabin features, like a coat hanger, lunch box holder and internal storage compartment, keep nonwork related equipment away from navigation and power controls. In addition to stop and tail lights, the 416 features a retractable seatbelt, flashing hazard lights, battery disconnect switch and electric warning horn. The cab also features an air conditioning system for driver comfort.
Loader and Bucket

The 416's backhoe has a dig depth of 14.3 feet with a rotation of 205 degrees. The machine's standard general purpose loader has a capacity 1 cubic yard of fill with a width of 7.42 feet and is capable of a dump height of 8.66 feet. The loader's lift capacity is 6,180 lbs. The 416's optional extendible stick ("E-Stick") component increases reach and dig depth by approximately 4 feet. The loader is powered by a narrow boom to enhance the operator's view to the bucket throughout the entire operating range.
