Concrete Floor Molds That Create a Stone Look

  • Plastic Multiple-Stone Molds

    • One variety of concrete mold comes in a large size, for example, 20 inches by 24 inches. This type of mold is made of strong ABS plastic and holds up to multiple uses. The mold contains a number of smaller rectangles or random stone shapes. You mix quick concrete, fill the mold, and then remove the mold when the concrete begins to set. The result is a pattern that looks like a section of a carefully laid stone path or floor. After creating as many sections as you need, you fill in the spaces with sand for outdoors or concrete grout for indoors to create a natural stone look quickly and relatively easily.

    Silicone and Urethane Multiple-Stone Molds

    • Some manufacturers sell silicone rubber or urethane molds for creating concrete stone floors. Silicone molds are used by professional designers to create a variety of architectural elements and are effective for concrete floors as well. The primary advantage of silicone or urethane over plastic is the flexibility of the mold. These molds create a different look than the open-top plastic molds.

    Individual Molds

    • Other manufacturers produce individual stone molds in a variety of shapes and sizes. Each mold is used to create one stone. With this type of mold, you assemble the stones to create a floor or path in the same way you would create a natural stone floor. The advantage of the concrete stone is the consistency in size and shape and the lower cost.

    Dyes

    • Concrete stones can be colored to look like natural stone at a fraction of the cost. Although it will take some experimenting, you can use natural colorants to create a concrete floor with the look of natural stone.
