Eupatorium maculatum, commonly known as Joe Pye weed, flowers in late summer. The sweet-smelling, purplish blooms attract butterflies and bees. The dried seed heads -- attractive in the winter garden -- can be clipped, saved and sown in spring to establish new colonies.
