The Definitive Guide to Home Organization for Busy People

Developing and maintaining a system for keeping a home organized is essential, especially for busy people. With proper planning, a busy person can keep a home organized with minimal effort and time.
  • Uncluttering

    • Take a room, closet or cupboard each day and spend 10 minutes uncluttering. Use three boxes, labeled with the following: "Keep," "Give Away" and "Throw Away." Take each item and put it in one of the three boxes. Put the keep items back in their place, bring the give away items to a donation center, such as Goodwill, and toss the throw away box. Do not keep anything you have not worn or used in a year or more.

    Simple Systems

    • Implement simple systems into each area of the house. For instance, make the bed right after the last person is out of it, fold the laundry right out of the dryer and clear the table right after eating.

    Creative Storage

    • Look for creative storage places. Under-the-bed storage containers work well to organize and store toys, wrapping paper and off-season clothes. Use decorative boxes to organize photos. Place a basket near the door to collect keys, cell phones and mail.
