The Differences Between the Garmin Nuvi 205W and 255W

  • Price

    • Generally speaking, as is the case for Garmin Nuvi products, a higher model number indicates a higher price and, accordingly, more features. You can expect the Nuvi 205 to run about $30 to $40 less than the 255W.

    Navigation

    • The biggest difference between the two models in terms of everyday use is the voice prompts for turn-by-turn directions found on the 255W model. A voice prompt feature means the unit will announce upcoming turns audibly, allowing you keep your eyes on the road and spend less time looking at the device.

    Additional Features

    • In addition to having audible voice prompts, the 255W unit has Garmin's EcoRoute feature, a navigation option to suggest a "less fuel" route and provide a mileage report, and Garmin Garage, a free online service providing customization options for voices and vehicles. The 255W, unlike the 205W, also has a currency converter and a measurement converter.

    Recall Information

    • Garmin recalled some of its Nuvi GPS devices for battery replacement. However, neither of these units was included in the recall.
