Directions for Irrigation Timers on a Garden Hose

Even in areas where rainfall may be plentiful, most gardens and lawns need supplemental irrigation from time to time. Factors affecting the amount of water plants can absorb range from how quickly the soil drains to soil composition and slope of the soil. If you don't have the time to hand-water your landscape daily, a hose connected to both a sprinkler and an irrigation timer can be a useful tool. Irrigation timers control the flow of water running through the hose. Timers can be set to activate easily and quickly.

Pull the battery cover off the back of the irrigation timer. Pull out the tab to which a 9-volt battery connects. Snap the tab onto the top of the 9-volt battery. Insert the battery into the back of the irrigation timer and snap the lid back on the timer.

Connect the irrigation timer to a water source such as a spigot by screwing the connection valve at the top of the timer into the spigot valve.

    • 3

Connect the valve at the bottom end of the irrigation timer to a hose by screwing the hose end valve into the threaded end of the timer. For example, by turning the valve to 30, you will select 30 minutes.

Set the irrigation cycle time selector to the correct amount of time you want the valve to open during watering sessions. For example, by turning the dial to 1 day, you will set the timer to release water every 24 hours.
