Disk partition recovery tools allow you to recover your hard drive partition after you delete it, going beyond the scope of other tools. Programs such as "FDisk" from MS DOS allow you to recover the partition if you have not written anything else over it (if you deleted the partition, realized your mistake and would like to retrieve it). These programs cannot recover data that was written over already (if you deleted a partition, repartitioned your computer, used it for six months and then realized that you shouldn't have deleted a partition and now want to recover it).
Active Partition Recovery
-
This tool comes in both DOS and Windows versions and provides a number of options for recovering both deleted partitions and deleted logical drives. The program can recover all kinds of Windows- and DOS-based partitions, including NTFS (commonly used by Windows XP and above) as well as FAT and FAT32 (used by Windows 95 and below and Windows 98 and Me, respectively). The program also can recover your master boot record and provides a number of other tools to help you recover lost data from an accidentally partition deletion.
EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard
-
In addition to providing for recovery of deleted partitions, the EASUS Data Recovery Wizard is designed to recover data from a wide variety of other accidental or virus related losses. The program works with any version of Windows from Windows 2000 through Windows 7 (it does not work with Windows Me and below, though). The program can recover both deleted partitions and reformatted partitions, whether you have used the full or quick format. It also works with all Windows- and DOS-based partition formats from FAT12/16 (original FAT) through VFAT, FAT32 and both NTFS and NTFS5 (a slightly more advanced version of NTFS offering encryption and other specialized capabilities).
ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery)
-
As the name suggests, ZAR does not make any assumptions about what you have left and attempts to recover data no matter what the cause of the loss. The program is designed for more than just recovering deleted partitions. It also is capable of recovering deleted master boot records (a section of the hard drive that is required for your drive to be readable). The program also can recover your partition, even after damage from a virus or worm.
