DIY CD Printing

With the right printer and compact disks, do-it-yourself CD printing is simple. You can design CD labels on your computer or use downloaded labels. You can print these images on the front of blank CDs. With a high-quality printer, the CD will come out looking just as good as if you bought it from a store.

  Make sure your printer is CD/DVD-compatible. Consult the manual or manufacturer's website to find out.

  Open your printer's Settings menu. For most printers, you can do this by opening any print-friendly application (such as Microsoft Word) and selecting "Print" from the File menu. From there, select "Settings" or "Preferences."

  Look for a tab labeled "Paper type" or "Media."

  Click the drop-down box and select "CD/DVD" (or your printer's equivalent).

  Insert a printable CD into your printer's CD/DVD slot. Printable CDs have plain white covers, instead of the shiny silver you often get with blank CDs. Be sure the disk is facing the right way -- the same way you'd have paper face -- to print on the correct side.

  Open the image you wish to print on the CD.
