DIY Insulated Shades

Windows are one of the top sources of energy loss in modern homes. This is partly because glass is an excellent conductor of heat, but air also leaks through window joints, frames, cracks and sashes. Insulating window shades are a cost-effective way to minimize heat loss and save on energy costs. Basic window shades are very easy to make and take little sewing skill or tools, according to Pam Damour in her website, the Decorating Diva. This shade attaches directly to the window frame with a hook-and-loop fabric fastener at the top, sides and bottom of the shade.
