Florida Poker Expansion Laws

On July 1, 2010, Florida gaming regulations changed to expand poker playing in the state. The agreement between the state and Seminole Indian tribe effects casinos operated by the tribe and any Florida-authorized card rooms.
  • Cash Game Buy-In

    • The previous buy-in amount maximum of $100 is now unlimited for cash games. The buy-in amount, which is the minimum amount of chips players must purchase to enter a poker game, is any sum determined by the card room. This allows for higher stakes games.

    Tournament Buy-In

    • Poker tournaments, where players pay a specific amount and receive the same number of poker chips as all other players, now have no restrictions on the buy-in amount. The intention of this change is to attract professional players to the state.

    Hours of Operation

    • Card rooms can open for 18 hours per day on weekdays and remain open for 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday. Play may also conducted at these card rooms on holidays, as defined by the state.
