Ford Taurus 2000 Spark Plug Installation

The Ford Taurus 2000 has two different engine types: regular gasoline or flexible fuel. Spark plugs in the regular gasoline Taurus need to be replaced every 100,000 miles or before, and the plugs in the flexible fuel Taurus must be changed every 30,000 miles or before. Spark plugs are a vital part of a car engine. They create a spark, igniting the mixture of fuel and air. Because of their importance, it's a good idea to know how to change them when they stop functioning.
    • 1

Turn off the engine of your Taurus, and allow it to cool for an hour. Once it is cool enough to touch, remove the negative battery cable and the spark plugs.

    • 2

Take hold of the spark plug wire by the cover. Twist it back and forth, and pull it back.

    • 3

Release the spark plug from its well. Pull the spark plug socket over the plug, and, using a wrench, twist it to the left.

    • 4

Spray canned air into the well to remove any dirt.

    • 5

Cover the threads of the new spark plugs with anti-seize compound, and add a drop to the inside of the wire cover.

    • 6

Place the new plug into the well. If there is any reluctance, unscrew the spark plug and start again. Once fully inserted, test the tension to ensure it meets the required foot pounds of the plug.

    • 7

Reconnect all of the spark plug wires, as well as the negative battery cable.
