Garden Gazebo Instructions

A gazebo is a small wooden structure with open sides and a roof. Gazebos have long been fixtures in public parks, and many people install them in their backyards. A gazebo allows you to gather outside with family and friends and provides you with shelter if it begins to rain. Building a gazebo can be a challenging project, so many people purchase and assemble gazebo kits.
    • 1

Purchase a gazebo kit. You can find one online or at a home improvement store, and it will cost between $2,000 and $3,000 (2010 prices) for a kit that's 6 to 8 feet wide. The kits contain all the pieces you need to construct the gazebo, with the larger pieces--such as panels for the floor and roof--preassembled.

    • 2

Build the foundation for the gazebo. This can involve either pouring a concrete slab, or building piers by digging holes in the ground, filling them with concrete and installing footers for the gazebo.

    • 3

Organize the pieces in the gazebo kit by grouping similar pieces together. This will help speed the assembly process.

    • 4

Lay the floor panels face down and fit them together. Screw the panels together by attaching the screws provided in the kit through the predrilled holes.

    • 5

Flip the floor over and move it into position on the foundation or footings. Follow local zoning regulations regarding whether the gazebo must be bolted to the foundation.

    • 6

Insert the beams that will hold up the roof panels into position around the perimeter of the floor, but don't screw them in place yet.

    • 7

Slide the wall panels into position between the beams and screw them into place.

    • 8

Secure the beams into the floor. Check all joints to ensure that they're properly fastened.

    • 9

Place a ladder in a position where you can begin to install the roof panels.

    • 10

Slide the roof trusses into position, with the help of an assistant if needed. Connect the trusses where they meet in the middle of the gazebo and where they connect to the beams, with the provided hardware.

    • 11

Place the roof panels on top of the trusses and screw them to the trusses, following the manufacturer's instructions.
