Haunted Houses Near Durham, North Carolina

    • The Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, area has several haunted houses for visitors to test their ghostly fears. Durham and Raleigh are less than 25 miles apart located in the northern half of the state and close to Interstates 95 and 85. Many of these haunted houses see an increase in activity during the Halloween season.

    Durham Jaycees Annual Haunted House

    • The Durham Jaycees have been providing chills to visitors since the 1970s. Volunteers run the house, and proceeds from ticket sales go to local charities. The location of the haunted house can change each year. It is open the last two weekends of October and, of course, on Halloween night. A milder version of the haunted house is available for younger children during daytime hours as well.

    Town of Cary Haunted House

    • The Town of Cary is located just minutes from Raleigh and hosts its version of a haunted house for just one night every year -- the Saturday night before Halloween -- at the Herbert C. Young Community Center. The event caters to young children earlier in the day with a Halloween carnival and haunted house in the evening. A $1 donation for each event, as of 2010, helps fund the Cary Teen Council.

    Clayton's Fear Farm

    • Located six miles south of Raleigh is Clayton's Fear Farm. It is a Halloween "scream park" and features eight haunted houses and a 10-acre corn maze. Starting in 2010, the Clayton Fear Farm will include a 3D haunted house, called "Seymour's House of Dreams." It's open during the month of October with late-night hours.
