How Do I Find a Sanskrit Guru?

From the Sanskrit, "guru," means one who is a personal spiritual teacher, most notably a teacher of Hinduism but sometimes in Buddhism as well. You can find a guru, but not a Sanskrit guru.
  • Expectations

    • Don't assume a guru is someone you worship or someone who makes decisions for you. You are always accountable and responsible for your own actions. No one, not even a guru, is responsible for the way you live your life or how you choose to behave toward others.

    Focus

    • Focus on becoming a good disciple. There is an old adage that when you are ready, the right teacher will find you. Study, learn patience and be ready to not only have an open mind but also be critical so you can recognize the right person.

    Warning

    • Make sure your spiritual teacher is a legitimate guru and not someone who is just scamming you for money. A guru should always behave ethically and strive to help others, not harm them. A guru should always be motivated by love and compassion and be more learned and fully realized than the student.
