Research
-
You can get information on any topic you choose from books and reliable Internet sources. Read about your topic from more than one source, if you can. You may want to ask an adult to read with you and help you figure out any words that are new to you.
Understand Vocabulary and Ideas
-
Make a list of words that you may want to use in your report. Copy them carefully from the book or website so you can be sure to spell them correctly when you write. Make a list of the most important ideas that you read. You may want to use a graphic organizer to help you keep track of your ideas.
Write the Report
-
Think about what you read and tell about it in your own words. If you understood what you read, you will have no trouble writing your nonfiction report. Pretend you are telling a friend about what you learned, but instead of talking, you'll be writing. Use your list of vocabulary words to help you.
