How to Apply Color on Gold Leaf

Gold leaf has become very popular in various forms. Artists have used it for centuries to add an extra dimension, especially to religious art. More recently it has become common to find gold leaf on furniture. On its own, gold leaf is very attractive and painting a design onto it can improve the look even more.

  Clean any area of the gold leaf you want to paint with a damp cloth, and allow it to dry.

  Using the brushes or stencils, apply the oil paint in a thin layer in your desired pattern.

  Allow the first color of paint to dry before applying a second color.
