How to Test Low Speed Netflix Videos

In 2008, Netflix began running a series of tests where its subscribers could try a new type of video player. As of late 2010, the option to opt into this test is still present. This video player allows subscribers to try streaming videos in lower quality rather than the highest quality, which is Netflix's default setting. The same videos that are available under "Watch Instantly" are also available on this online video player.

  Navigate to the "Opt In" link. (See Resources)

  Sign in to your Netflix account if you are not already logged in. Netflix will automatically enable the new player.

  Search for movies by typing them into the search bar.

  Click "Watch Instantly" on a movie you want to test.
