How to Change the Domain Name in Exchange

The Exchange server on your network allows your users to send and receive email. When an email is received, the Exchange server stores it until the user's client software downloads it. The Exchange server administrator sets mailbox stores with the appropriate domain for the recipient user. The domain suffix for email addresses are required, so the system knows where to route each email message when it is received.

  Click the Windows "Start" button on your Exchange server. Click "Administrative Tools," then click "Exchange Server Manager."

  Right-click "Default Recipient Policies" and select "Properties." This opens a configuration window. Click the tab labeled "E-Mail Address Policy."

  Click the "New" button. In the list of options, click "SMTP Domain" and click "Next." Type the domain name in the text box with the "@" symbol for the prefix. For instance, if your domain is "domain.com," type "@domain.com."

  Click "OK" to save your settings. In the main properties window, click "OK" again to complete the process and close the window.
