How to Check Transmission TR3 Fluid Level

The Triumph TR3 is a British car produced between 1955 and 1957. It is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission. Checking the fluids every few weeks is a crucial part of regular maintenance. If fluid levels are too low, it causes the gears to grind together in the engine. Once transmission fluid gets old (approximately 30,000 miles) debris begins to build and cause engine damage. Checking the transmission requires a few standard tools and can be completed in less than 20 minutes.

Raise the front of the car on a pair of jack stands on a level surface. Slide underneath the TR3 to locate the gearbox. It is a round, silver-colored, metal tank with a pipe coming out from the front and back. It is positioned near the center of the engine, slightly toward the driver's side.

Wipe off the fill plug bolt with the rag.The transmission fluid should be translucent red. If the fluid is dark or opaque, it needs to be changed.

Look into the fill plug. The fluid should be level with the bottom of the hole. If the fluid isn't at this level, it needs to filled through this hole with a fluid pump.
