How to Connect to Your ISP Using an AirCard

AirCards connect to a computer through a USB or PCMCIA slot. They provide a means for the computer to access an Internet service provider over the air from any location in the provider's range. Cell phone companies often provide AirCards through contracts with limits on usage. AirCards are especially popular among laptop users who wish to have total mobility or those who live in places where conventional Internet services are not accessible.

  Place the AirCard into the appropriate slot on the computer. Make sure the card is pushed in securely to the slot.

  Insert the CD that was provided by your Internet service provider. Close the tray; the CD will start automatically.

  Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your AirCard account. This will vary depending on the provider. In general, a username and password will be required that allow the computer to establish a connection. The username and password should be provided by the ISP when you open an AirCard contract with them.

  After entering the necessary information, finish the installation process. If asked whether you want the AirCard to connect automatically when a signal is present, choose "Yes." The login process will be performed by the computer on startup in the future, making this a one-time setup.
