- 1
Insert the DVD into your computer. Go to "My Computer," right-click on the DVD drive and click "Explore."
- 2
Find all of the "VTS" labeled files inside the "Video" folder. Copy and paste them to an easily accessible folder on your computer. The easiest way is to right-click on the desktop select "New Folder" and name it "DVD_Conversion" or something you can remember.
- 3
Right-click on each file and rename it with a ".mpg" extension. This makes the files compatible with Adobe Premiere. VOB are essentially MPEG files, but in a special format made for DVD players to read.
- 4
Start a new project in Adobe Premiere. Click on the "Import" icon in the project window. Select the converted MPEG files from the desktop folder. Wait for the application to process the videos.
- 5
Drag and drop each video file into the "Video 1" layer in the "Timeline" window. Make sure the videos are pressed up against each other so there is no black space in-between clips when you export the final video.
- 6
Add any extras you want to the video, like titles, transitions or special effects within the project. Click on the "Effects" window and browse through the "Video Effects" and "Video Transitions" folder. Drag and drop an effect over the video file to apply it to the video.
- 7
Click on "File," "Export" and select "Movie." Click on "Settings" and wait for a new window to pop up.
- 8
Select "AVI" from the list of video options. Give a name to the final file and press "OK." Wait for the file to render completely. See the status of the file in the render box on the center of the screen.
- 9
Test the final AVI file in a media player to make sure it plays and is rendered correctly.

How to Convert a DVD to AVI Adobe
Adobe Premiere can be used to create complicated edits to videos, for special effects or even just for simple functions like a video conversion. Converting a DVD to AVI will allow users to edit the video within Premiere, store it on a computer using less hard drive space than a full DVD or burn to a new DVD as a backup copy. You only need a basic knowledge of Adobe Premiere to do the conversion.
