How to Create a Certificate for Https

HTTPS, short for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, combines a transfer protocol with an encryption protocol. Encryption protects users' information when they pass data such as finances or passwords to your website. To set up HTTPS ability, you must first create a Secured Socket Layer, or SSL, certificate using a wizard available from the main Web host console, Internet Information Services. An SSL certificate provides your Windows Web host server with encryption capabilities.

  Click the "Start" button on your Windows Web host server and select "Administrative Tools." Click "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager" to open your configuration console.

  Click the Web host server name on the left side of the window. In the center details section, double-click the "Server Certificates" icon.

  Click "Create Certificate Request" to start the SSL certificate creation wizard. Enter the information in the wizard window. You need to specify the company name, your name, the business address and the country. Click "Next."

  Leave the default encryption options from the drop-down on the next window. These options give your server the highest encryption protection for the SSL certificate settings. Click "Next."

  Type a name for the certificate file. The SSL wizard creates a default name for you, so you can also leave the default entered in the text box. Click "Finish" to create your SSL certificate.
