How to Enable Bidirectional Communication on a Dell Printer

Dell printers come with a number of features designed to make them easier to use. Many of these features require bidirectional communication, meaning that the computer and the printer can communicate freely with one another. If features like test page printing, inkjet alignment and printer status updates are not working properly, you should check to make sure that bidirectional support is enabled.

      Log on to your computer, and click the "Start" button. Choose "Control Panel" from the list.

      Double-click the "Printers and Faxes" icon, and select your Dell printer from the list. Right-click the Dell printer, and choose "Properties."

      Click "Ports," and check the box titled "Enable Bidirectional Support." Click "OK" to confirm your setting.
