You can find the center of a wheel by following the rules for determining the circumference of a circle. The rules require knowing either the diameter, the radius or the circumference of the circle. The ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter is equal to pi, or 3.14. Use a simple formula involving pi and any one of the circle's measurements -- diameter, radius or circumference -- to locate the center of a wheel.
- 1
Extend the tape measure around the outside of the wheel. Write the circumference number down.
- 2
Divide the measured circumference 3.14. Write the diameter number down.
- 3
Divide the diameter number in half. The halved number is the radius. The center of the wheel is halfway across the diameter or where the radius begins.
