Hire a professional electrician to update the electrical supply in the attic. Consult with the electrician if you want to install light fixtures. A professional can check or relocate the electrical outlets and install light switches.

Install heavy, sturdy wood beams to supplement basic support beams that are in most attics. High quality hardwood flooring is a popular choice for attic rooms, because it is tough and adds beauty to the room. If you want to carpet the room, then be sure to add a durable underlayment before adding the carpet.

Insert insulation, if necessary, between the studs in the walls and in the ceiling. As you install insulation, do not press it down between the stud,s because it will not work properly. The back of the insulation should be facing you. Staple insulation in place every six inches.
- 4
Install rafter vents so air can circulate in the attic.
- 5
Nail plywood boards to the wall studs to cover the insulation.
- 6
Affix drywall boards over the plywood boards using drywall nails.
- 7
Cover the heads of drywall nails with joint compound. Let the compound dry. Sand the compound with 220 grit sandpaper using gentle motions. Use a fiber towel to remove sanding debris.
- 8
Prime and paint the room with the color of your choice. Furnish the room with furniture that suits your needs. Basic decor choices include a sofa, a table, artwork and a rug.
