The Top Ten Must Haves in a Woman's Closet

    • American women have been turning to pop culture icon, Oprah, for advice on life, relationships and style throughout her career. According to Oprah's stylist, Kelly Hurliman, there are 10 items that are essential to any woman's closet. These items include classic blouses, skirts and accessories that can be intermingled to form a variety of sharp outfits.

    Tops

    • Number 1 is classic blouses, such as easy to mix-and-match items including a crisp, white button-down collared shirt. Short and long-sleeved lightweight cardigans in colors such as white, black, blue or pink come in at Number 2. The third must-have of a woman's closet is debatable as to whether it is classified as a top or an accessory, but what is not up for debate is whether or not a woman should have a little black dress. According to Hurliman and others, a little black dress is both functional and fashionable and can be worn to cocktails, dinners and other dressy evening events ranging from company functions to drinks with friends.

    Bottoms

    • A skirt, two pairs of pants and jeans fill out the next four essential items that should line a woman's closet. Hurliman recommends a classic pair of comfortable khaki pants because they can be easily updated and mixed with a variety of blouses for casual and business casual occasions. After khakis, a pair of slimming black pants are imperative, as they also as interchangeable for work and play. Women must also have a pair of dark washed jeans for casual activities such as shopping and spending time with friends. A fourth and final bottom that should fill out a woman's closet is a black pencil skirt that cuts slightly above the knee and flatters the figure. Like all of the other items mentioned, it coordinates with a variety of tops.

    Accessories

    • The last three essential items that round out a woman's closet are shoes, undergarments and pajamas. Undergarments that fit well and are flattering are a must-have. A confident portrayal of oneself starts with these items and will only make a woman feel uncomfortable, regardless of how well her outer garments fit, if her undergarments are too tight or baggy. A pair of comfortable, breathable, well-fitting and cute pajamas are important and should replace an endless supply of oversized t-shirts and sweatpants, according to Oprah. The final item on Hurliman's list is a comfortable pair of stylish, flat-heeled dress shoes, which she says should replace the old sneakers women too often wear.
