How to Get Rid of Apps on an iTouch

When Apple released the iPod touch, it further revolutionized the personal audio market. The touch is more than an MP3 player though, it's a miniature media center complete with video playback functionality, Wi-Fi network support for live updates to news and weather, and a huge selection of applications available to download, sometimes at a minimal cost, and sometimes for free. As with any electronic device, the iPod touch can encounter occasional problems, and applications will need to be removed or reinstalled.

Power on the iPod, or remove the hold to access the touch. Connect your iPod touch to your computer and sync the iPod with iTunes. This will back up all of your application data, should you decide that you wish to reinstall the application at a later time.

Touch and hold any application on the iPod touch Home screen. All of the icons will begin to wiggle. An "x" will appear in the corner of all of the applications listed. Tap the "x" to remove the application. Your iPod might ask you to rate the application for feedback to the App Store. Tap "Delete."

Press the Home button to return to the Home screen. When you delete an application in this way, the data can't be accessed through the iPod touch interface, but it isn't erased completely. It can be reactivated by connecting the iPod to the computer and clicking "Applications" in iTunes. Select the application if you want it to be visible again. This is a built-in safety feature, and prevents you from accidentally deleting apps. To completely remove the application, see Section 2.
