How to Identify a Scrub

Skin scrubs help skin to become more radiant and beautiful by sloughing off dead skin cells, excess oils and dirt that can make it sallow and rough. When purchasing a skin scrub, it is important to identify what ingredients the scrub may be comprised of. Certain scrubs are more abrasive than others, and should be used on the tougher skin around the elbows, while other scrubs are lighter for use on the face.

Look at the scrub with a magnifying glass to see it's particulates. Light scrubs will contain smooth, rounded particulates that will be gentle on the skin. More abrasive scrubs will contain rough-edges particulates that will scrub the skin more aggressively.

Scoop out a dollop of the scrub to feel with your fingers. Lighter scrubs will feel soft and the particulates will feel smooth. More abrasive scrubs will feel rough and coarse.

Place a dollop of the scrub onto a glass mirror, and spread it around with your finger. Creamier scrubs for soothing the skin will look more opaque, while abrasive scrubs meant to exfoliate the skin deeply will look more translucent.

Rinse off the scrub under water. Scrubs for sensitive areas will contain more oils and will not rinse off easily. Scrubs meant for tougher areas will rinse off easily with water.

Smell a dollop of the scrub. Scrubs that smell acidic and fruity will exfoliate the skin more deeply, while scrubs that smell more mild will be more gentle on the skin.
