How to Install HP Print Cartridges

You will need to install a printer cartridge whenever the computer alerts you that the device does not have high enough ink levels to print any more documents. The steps will differ depending on the kind and model of HP printer you are using. The most common kinds of HP printers are DeskJet, OfficeJet and LaserJet printers.
  • Installing an Ink Cartridge for HP Deskjet/OfficeJet Printers

      Press the power button of the printer to turn on the machine. Open the top printer access door and wait for the cartridge cradle to move to the center or right portion of the printer.

      Lift the printer carriage cover and pull the cartridge away from its slot.

      Remove the packing tape that covers the nozzle of the ink cartridge. With the ink cartridge label facing up, place the ink cartridge into the printer carriage until it clicks into place. Close the printer cover.

    Installing an Toner Cartridge for HP LaserJet Printers

      Lift the print cartridge door to open. Pull the toner cartridge away from the slot.

      Hold the new cartridge on each end. Remove the packing tape attached to the cartridge. Rock the new toner cartridge back and forth to evenly distribute the toner.

      Place the toner cartridge inside the cartridge compartment of the printer and close the print cartridge door.
