How to Install a Square D Circuit Breaker

Homeowners don't pay much attention to the circuit breaker panel in their home until there is an electrical problem. But if a circuit breaker is in need of replacement, it is important to replace it with the same style and amperage rating as the one being removed. Square D is a brand name of company that has manufactured circuit breakers and other products dealing with electrical distribution since 1903.

      Put on the safety glasses or goggles and the rubber-soled shoes. Be sure that the floor underneath the breaker panel is dry. Place the rubber mat on the floor near the panel. Turn on the flashlight or helmet light. Turn off all branch circuits in the panel by flipping the individual breakers to the "Off" position. Turn off the main disconnect located at the top of the panel.

      Remove the screws from the panel cover and set them aside. Pull the panel out and away from the box.

      Pull the breaker to be replaced straight out. A screwdriver may be used to pry the breaker out. Loosen the terminal screw and pull the wire away from the breaker.

      Flip the switch of the new breaker to the "Off" position. Attach the wire to the terminal screw of the breaker. Plug the breaker back into position by firmly pushing it into position.

      Reattach the panel cover using the screws. Turn the main switch back on. Flip all circuit breakers to the "On" position one at a time.
