How to Locate 1967 Mustang Numbers

The 1967 production year marked the first styling change for Ford's Mustang. The car was slightly larger than the earlier models, due in part to the availability for the first time of a big-block engine. The base model eight-cylinder engine remained the 289, which was eventually replaced in the middle of the 1968 production year. The 1968 model used the same body as the 1967 and most parts were interchangeable. For this reason, identifying the Mustang's numbers is important, but the numbers must first be located.

  Open the driver's side door and locate the metal identification tag riveted to the rear face of the door.

  Open the hood and locate the vehicle identification number stamped into the top of the driver's side of the engine bay.

  Inspect the passenger's side of the block, next to the starter motor, for the engine code. The code is stamped into the block.

  Open the hood and locate the date of production code on the driver's side of the front of the engine block, to the right of the distributor. The code is stamped into the block.
