Clean the steps before storing them with warm water and a sponge to remove dirt and dust. If residue lingers, combine warm water with liquid dish soap and wipe down the steps with soapy water. Remove the soap residue with a damp cloth.

Dry the steps with a towel. Remove all water while especially paying attention to the steps' brackets and screws to prevent rust from forming.

Fold the stairs. Push the bottom stair in to close the fixture. If the steps are mounted, secure the steps with the brackets or locking mechanisms. If the steps are not mounted, store the steps inside the camper or another dry space.

How to Maintain, Store a Camper's Steps
A camper steps's are placed by the door and the steps can be permanently affixed or removable. Camper steps are made of aluminum, steel or a combination of both. When not in use, the steps can be folded flat for storage or removed and stored inside the camper. If the steps are stored on the exterior, they should be released and cleaned monthly to keep them maintained and help prevent rust from forming.
